Kijani Kenya Trust
What we do

Kijani Kenya Trust is unique in that it not only acts to finance grassroots projects in Kenya, it also acts as a catalyst. Kijani’s model is to partner with groups or organisations that have a proven track record of project management.
Kijani is a generator, to help initiate ideas, partnerships and funds for projects which support the health and environmental conservation in Kenya.”

The initial concept was to bring international music to Kenya to raise money for Kijani’s charitable efforts. Today, Kijani has expanded its fundraising efforts to include applications for grants and trusts and also receives private and corporate donations.

What we fund

Kijani provides financial support for projects working on:
HIV/AIDS
Environmental Conservation

Kijani’s love of music also brought about the creation of musical education initiatives.

Kijani often works with directly with community groups, using key community contacts to help move the projects forward. This grassroots approach is central to Kijani’s success – by funding groups that are based in the community, Kijani can ensure that those with the most need benefit from Kijani’s funding and initiatives.

HIV/AIDS
HIV/AIDS has affected every aspect of community life. Most people in Kenya know someone who has died because of HIV. Daily, wives become widows and children are orphaned because of the disease. Therefore Kijani has prioritised supporting projects that serve children living with HIV/AIDS. Over the past five years, Kijani helped establish a Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) centre at Nanyuki Cottage Hospital and brought the first (and only) CD4 machine to Laikipia District. Today, Kijani is partnering with Gertrudes’ Children’s Hospital to support rural outreach health clinics.

Musical Education
Music education has to emerged from the Annual Music Festival. Kijani has sponsored internationally acclaimed artists to work with Kenyan music teachers and lecturers. The artists have also given master classes to Kenyan young singers and musicians, many of whom go on to perform in Kijani music festivals.

Environmental Conservation
Kijani’s conservation projects support the beautiful landscape and wildlife of Kenya, mostly by focusing on water harvesting and irrigation projects.
A major project has been working with Kenya Wildlife Service to provide a steady supply of water for the wildlife in a National Park.
